

Billy, known to most as Bill, was a retired teacher who taught Automotive Technology at Carson High School from 1988 to 2015. Bill was a devoted husband, brother, son, and father who experienced life through his teaching vocation and his many hobbies and interests.
Bill was born in Chester, Montana, immediately sharing life's adventures with his twin sister, Jo Anne. Bill was one of 7 children born to Alvin and Anabelle Barbie. Their family worked a wheat farm in Inverness, Montana. He and his wife Cathy met while attending summer professional recency classes, married a year later in 1986, and lived first in Havre, Montana before moving to Carson City, Nevada.
In addition to his teaching, Bill coached Skills USA groups at CHS and assisted with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Little League, and Youth Soccer for his son, Joshua Ryan. Bill was an integral part of the local and state Masonic entities, serving as a past master and trustee for Carson Lodge #1, Secretary-Recorder for the state of Nevada York Rite and Knights Templar, and Treasurer for Kerak Shrine. He also transported patients to the Shrine Hospital in Sacramento. Bill was always ready to step up to help anyone in need.
Bill was an incredible cook as well as a skilled craftsman. After his retirement, he was able to delve more into woodworking, metal, and his favorite which was stained glass. He also was instrumental in developing the Carson High Holiday Craft Fair, lending his expertise to his wife Cathy for more than 20 years. Throughout their almost 40 years of marriage, they shared camping, antiquing, and many travel adventures.
Bill is survived by his wife, Cathy, son Joshua Ryan, daughter-in-law, Beth Romero, his two sisters Jo Anne Barbie, and Jeanie Belgrade. He is also survived by his brothers Larry Barbie, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. His legacy includes the thousands of students that admired and respected him throughout his teaching career.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers Allen and Lyle, and his sister Mary Ann, along with aunts, uncles, and his son, Bryan Michael Joseph Barbie.
The family will not be having any public service or memorial. Bill requested cremation and his family will be taking him home to Montana as he wished.
