As a young boy, Terry attended Madison Elementary School, and later Central Union High School. Terry loved his years of football as a Central Grizzly and the lifelong friends he made there. He loved God and Country from an early age.
Terry married at the age of 18 and became a dad to Timothy and Kimberly at 21. In 1979, his daughter, Kristin, was born, completing his family. His children were and remained the light of his life. But, as life does, there were changes. Terry divorced and established a new life for himself and his kids.
Terry began his employment with Fresno Tractor Parts. After working there for a short time, Terry was employed by Fresno Equipment Company, starting out as a field mechanic and working his way up to Store Manager. He was respected and admired by farming customers and coworkers alike. Terry retired in 2001 after a 26 year career.
In 1987, Terry met Joy Skoegard at the Central Union High School reunion for the 1972-1973 classes. After a brief courtship, Terry and Joy married on January 23, 1988 in Fresno, California.
Terry then began a life long dream of getting his college degree. From 1988-2003, Terry earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fresno Pacific University. He then went on to earn his Master's Degree. He finally became a Doctor of Organizational Psychology, completed at California School of Professional Psychology. He did this while working a full time job, raising five children, farming 40 acres of grapes, and providing a home for his parents. All this was an amazing testament to his tenacity and drive.
Through their beautiful life, he was an amazing father figure and stepdad to Joy's beloved boys, Jason and Darren Kluttz. This family of seven enjoyed playing, working, laughter, graduations, weddings, tough times and good times. The five kids could always count on Terry to be there for them.
In 2005, Terry took employment at Madera Department of Social Services. He made many dear friends through his tenure there.
In 2015, Terry again retired and he and Joy set out on their own adventures. They spent their final years together in Virginia City, Nevada. For three years, they traveled almost 50,000 miles, seeing the beautiful USA. For the last year, they were joined by Terry's only real dog, Oliver.
In early February, 2020, a brief illness brought heartbreak and tragedy to the Hurt family. After a few short weeks battling liver cancer, Terry died on April 8th at the age of 65 at his home in Virginia City, Nevada surrounded by those that loved and cherished him.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Erma Lee Hurt, and by his grandson, Wyatt. He is survived by his golden friend and wife of 32 years, Joy Skoegard Hurt, Timothy and Mindy Hurt, Kimberly and Jarrett Marks, Kristin and Manuel Gonzales, Jason and Dashawne Kluttz, and Darren and Khrysta Kluttz, and 12 grandchildren.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in Nevada on Terry's 66th birthday. He is missed and his memory cherished by those who knew and loved him.
