

Mrs. Anne Harden Murphy, a beloved and accomplished mother, grandmother, and musician, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024. She was born on July 30, 1948, in Athens, Georgia, to the late Dr. and Mrs. W.E. Harden.
Anne was a woman of remarkable musical talents, and her passion for music touched the lives of many. She graduated from Wesleyan College and went on to dedicate her life to the world of music. Anne most recently served as the Director of Music at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Marietta, Georgia, where she shared her exceptional gift with the congregation and community, enriching the worship experience for all.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. William Eugene and Doris Harden, and her stepmother, Mary Harden, all of Brunswick, Georgia. She is survived by her husband, Huey T. Murphy, Jr. and her three children, Alison M. Smock (Kevin) of Woodstock, Georgia, Leigh M. Welch (Rob) of Cartersville, Georgia, and Michael H. Murphy (Whitney Mollura) of Alpharetta, Georgia.
She also leaves behind her two sisters, Mrs. Marie Westmoreland (Carl) of Atlanta, Georgia and Mrs. Marian Denmark (Bill) of Jacksonville, Florida, and their families; stepbrothers, Craig and Galin Hall, stepsister, Tami Stogner (Michael), and their families; and additional extended family and beloved friends.
Anne was a devoted grandmother (aka “Gunka”) to Hadley and Hayden Welch of Cartersville, Georgia, and Harrison Smock of Woodstock, Georgia. Her legacy lives on through her family, who will forever cherish the love and beautiful memories she shared with them.
Anne's impact on the lives of those who knew her and her unwavering dedication to her family and her music will be remembered and celebrated. She will be greatly missed and forever held in the hearts of her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Heaven’s Gait Therapeutic Riding at Alpha Equestrian Center (www.hgtrinc.com) in Anne's memory and in honor of her love for horses.
A visitation and gathering to celebrate Anne's life will be held at Owen Funeral Home on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. All family, friends and acquaintances are welcome to join in commemorating the life of this remarkable woman.
A private family burial at Christ Church, St. Simons Island, Georgia, is planned for a future date.
Father of all, we pray to you for Anne, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
