Clarence Joseph Stewart

Mr. Stewart was born February 22, 1922 in Mobile, Alabama, second son of the late Edward Lafayette and Mary Teresa Cain Stewart. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty seven years Thelma Yvonne Stewart, a daughter, Linda Kay Stewart, a granddaughter, Mary Frances Stoner.

He leaves to cherish precious memories his loving family, a daughter and son in law, Roy and Mary Stoner, of Adairsville, three sons, Joseph Edward Stewart, Sr., of Kennesaw, Robert McHugh Stewart, of Acworth and Vincent Lloyd Stewart, of Cartersville, six grandchildren, Sgt. Larry and Sallie Twyford, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Joseph Edward and Sarah Stewart Jr., of Acworth, Billy and Dr. Leigh Miles, of Atlanta, Jonathan David Stewart, of Marietta, Kristen Suzanne Stewart, of Dallas, and Robert Graham and Lyndse Stewart, of Marietta, four great grandchildren, Matthew Edward Stewart, David Ryan Stewart, Morgan Skylar Conley, Larry Twyford Jr.and Savannah Grace Miles.

Mr. Stewart was a 1941 graduate of Murphy High School, Mobile, Alabama. He served in the Navy Seabees during World war Two from 1942 to 1945, stationed on the Island of Terceira in the Azores. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church and a local business owner since moving to Carterville in 1968.

Mr. Stewart was a simple man who led a simple life. He loved his family very much and was at his happiest when he was with his family. While he didn’t live a high profile life he was a constant and steady presence for his family. His character, personality and great sense of humor made him a friend to many. He was not a man that asked for a lot. He loved to fish and was a very good fisherman.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 29, 2011, from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Marlon Haney officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens with military rites observed.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 till 8:00 P.M. Saturday.
