
Mr. Turner was born April 7, 1918 in Polk County, a son of the late Grady A. Turner and Fannie Popham Turner.
He was a charter member of the Gilmer Street Baptist Church and later the Grace Baptist Church, a veteran of World War Two and the Korean Conflict serving in the Army/Air Force, and retired from Goodyear Mills. After retirement he established the first Allstate Insurance Agency in Bartow County. He was a member of the first graduation class of Ga. State University. An active member of the Carl Boyd Post #42 American Legion he was a Past Commander and had the honor of having the fairground named after him.
Preceded in death by his wife Fannie Dee Turner in 2001, he is survived by his children and their spouses, David Turner, Jr. and wife Debbie, of Cartersville, Linda Diane Hicks and husband Bill, of Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, and Phillip Turner and wife Earline, of Stone Mountain, grandchildren, Reece and Kandi Turner, Kipling Turner, and Brian and Scott E. Hicks, great grandchildren, Carter Turner, Emma Grace Turner, Rahli Dee Turner, Ashton Hicks, Turner Hicks and Charlotte Hicks, brothers, Wallace Turner, Daniel Turner and Wayne Turner, all of Cartersville, sisters, Virginia Fulton, of Kennesaw and Mozelle Towe, of Cartersville, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph and Houston Turner.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Harris and Larry Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens with military rites observed b y the Carl Boyd Post #42 of the American Legion.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Turner, Wallace Turner, Jr., Danny Turner, Ronnie Turner, Wayne Turner and Jerry Brookshire.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 till 9:00 P.M. Tuesday.
