

He was born in Rome, Georgia on August 15, 1947. He graduated from Coosa High School and attended Floyd Jr. College. He served in the U.S. Army, completing a tour in Vietnam. He was a talented carpenter, cabinet maker, and home builder; he contributed to several exhibits at the Bartow History Museum and the Tellus Science Museum. Dayton loved vintage cars, reading Western novels, and vacations with his family. He had the best sense of humor and was a friend to everyone who met him.
Dayton is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kelley Lemmings, daughter Lisa Breakwell (Jake), daughter Casey Lemmings, granddaughter Emily Breakwell, sister, Carolyn Waits (Richard), and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Morris Edgar and Ruby Lemmings and brother Morris Lemmings.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 5:00 till 8:00 PM at Owen Funeral Home. A graveside service at the Georgia National Cemetery will be held at a later date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter or the Margaret and Luke Pettit Environmental Preserve.
