Ellen Doris Allison was born in Cartersville on September 18, 1923, the daughter of Henry Grady Allison and Lois Belle Bradford Allison. She was educated in the Cartersville school system, graduating from Cartersville High School in the class of 1940. She lived the following year in Atlanta with her uncle and aunt, Hugh and Frances Bradford, while completing a commercial course at the Atlanta Opportunity School.
She married Rufus A. Brock on July 20, 1947. The couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary just prior to his death in 2008.
Mrs. Brock worked at several local businesses, including teller at the First National Bank and clerk at Knight Mercantile Co. Following her retirement in 1985, she and Mr. Brock enjoyed traveling, gardening, taking long drives, and maintaining the home they built on Gilmer Street in 1950.
Mrs. Brock was an active member of her church, Douglas Street United Methodist, for over 50 years. A faithful and tireless worker, she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Adult Sunday School class, and the choir. She also served as a member of the Administrative Board and was a trustee. In recent years she worshipped at the Oakland Heights Baptist Church until failing health made attendance impossible.
Mrs. Brock was devoted to her family and home. She took care of both of her parents, her husband, and her sister, Margaret Allison, through long illnesses and declining health without complaint. She is survived by her children, Susan Allison Brock of Cartersville, and David Crawford Brock of Lutherville, Maryland, four sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews
