Mrs. Walters was born on February 8, 1929, in High Point, NC, daughter of the late Max T. Anders and Blanche Arrington Anders.
She graduated in 1951 from Western North Carolina University with a teaching degree in
mathematics and physical education and taught school and coached girls sports for more than
20 years. She ended her teaching career in the Cartersville school system in the 1970s. She
loved sports and was an accomplished tennis player and long wished she was more
accomplished in golf. She was a beloved mother and grandmother and had a full and active life
filled with travel, friends and family. She was a woman of faith, and she and her husband, Buck,
were founding members of Heritage Baptist Church.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Joe Blake Coffey, and her
second husband of 22 years and favorite golf partner, M.S. "Buck" Walters.
Survivors include sons, Donald J. Coffey of Cartersville, GA, and M. Terry Coffey and wife Elizabeth
of Wilmington, NC; daughters, Lisa Walters Wheeler of Cartersville, GA, and Patrice Walters Stewart and husband Steve of Troy, AL; grandchildren, Taylor Coffey and her fiance Kimberly O'Connor of Woodstock, GA, Joe Coffey of Cartersville, GA, Cameron Coffey Crafford and husband Matthew of Washington, DC, Graham Coffey of Nashville, TN, Matt Stewart of Los Angeles, CA, Emily Stewart Baker and husband Dallas of Greensboro, NC, William "Will" Wheeler and wife Erin of Acworth, GA and Whitney Wheeler of Asheville, NC. She is also survived by her dear friend and caretaker, Janie Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 8, at Heritage Baptist Church in Cartersville with Rev. Michael Tutterow officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made in her memory to Heritage Baptist Church, 1070 Douthit Ferry Road, Cartersville, GA 30120.
