

Earl was a kind, generous and hardworking man and was always doing for others, whether that was plowing gardens or taking someone to the doctor, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a lifelong member and a deacon of Peeples Valley Baptist Church where he faithfully served the Lord. Earl’s home for the past two years was Tiger Lily Estates where he was cared for and loved by all the staff and residents. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Tiger Lily Estates and to those at Trinity Hospice who so lovingly cared for him this past year.
Earl is preceded in death by his wife Marie Womack Mathison; sons, Terry Earl Mathison and William Brent Mathison; sister, Willie (Horace) King; brothers, Charles (Mamie Lou) Mathison, and Ernest Mathison; brother-in-law, Charles Chastain. He is survived by his daughter, Shelia (Chris) Lyerla; grandchildren, Kristi (Michael) McRay, Ross (Julie) Mathison, Molly Mathison and Kasey (Keith) Osbon; great-grandchildren, Jackson Barnette, Avery McRay, Lance Mathison, Garrett McRay, Marissa Hardin, Landon Mathison, Damon Hardin, Laney McRay, Everett McRay and Kenley Osbon; and his sister Betty Chastain.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2 pm. Thursday, October 12th. In the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenny Jacobs and Chaplain Michael Westmoreland officiating. The internment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with Jackson Barnette, Lance Mathison, Garrett McRay, Damon Hardin, Everett McRay , Michael McRay, Ralph Mathison and Jerry Mathison serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 12:00 pm until 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
