I am so sorry to learn  of Gene's death. We had so many wonderful years being Gene and Rosemary's friends when I worked for Wally. Your family was always so special to all of us. Heaven has a crazy wonderful Irishman making everyone laugh! My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Much love.

Mr. Kelly's Family - very sorry for your loss.  My parent's live a few houses down the street, so I had the opportunity to chat with him every now and then.  My kids spend quite a bit of time at my parent's house, so they got to know Mr. Kelly pretty well.  He was so kind to them.  They will miss him dearly.  What a great guy.  You are in our prayers.

To Gene's Family...My memories of Gene begin in about 1948 and end about 1960.Gene grew up in the old Greene Square neighborhood of Savannah and was a legend among us younger kids.We played a lot of sandlot baseball against each other back then and everybody knew to get out of his way when he was running the base paths or blocking the plate.Gene went on to Benedictine to star in both baseball and football.The best thing about Gene though was his dynamic,cheerful attitude.Always laughing,always kidding around.Gene moved away many years ago but I never forgot him.What a great guy!....Rest in peace old friend.

Mr Kelly - heaven received a true angel. It brings tears to my eyes and a hurting heart for a man that I met walking through my parents neighborhood. Although you were not part of our family, it felt like you were. I remember the days you would sit on the porch and I would walk by either to my parents mailbox, my car or just walking their neighborhood and you would make it a point to wave and say how's your day, job or just a friendly hello. A man with a big caring heart !!!! It will be hard looking the direction of your home and no longer seeing you sit on that chair in the front but the memories will live on. You were a blessing to that neighborhood. You will be missed and always loved!!!!!

My husband Mike and I feel so deeply blessed to have known Mr. Gene Kelly.... a man with a heart bigger than life itself. He loved us all deeply and never missed an opportunity to express his love to us. 
I will always remember the day I found out he had just buried both his beloved wife and son.  I had been out of town and upon my return was informed by John Cast that he had lost both of them and that they had just had the funeral that day. I remember rushing over to his home  to offer him my deepest sympathy, comfort  and support.  When he opened the door all I could do was hug him and cry.  And then as I apologized for crying and not being more of a support to him he looked at me and said; it's ok to cry and then pointing to the cross around my neck he said;  you know HE promises not to give us more than we can handle and always to be with us to carry us through it'. Yes, the man whose world was crumbling before his very eyes loving reached out to me to bring me comfort. 
Then there were the times following my husband and my  automobile accident and I was unable to walk he cooked a complete breakfast for my husband and I on several occasions and joyfully walked with tray in hand to deliver with love the meal he had so lovingly  prepared for us.  
You would think  one accident was enough, but, not for Mr. Kelly! Thanksgiving a year ago when I suffered a serious fall without hesitation once again he tirelessly  prepared delicious home cooked meals for my husband and I on several occasions . 
Like my husband, Mr. Kelly  loved sitting on his porch and many a days would join mike  on ours where my grandchildren quickly developed love and affection  for whom our  lil 5 year old Charley Mae lovingly called Uncle Kelly.  Whenever she saw him sitting on his porch she would run and ask granny and poppa  if she could please go tell Uncle Kelly hello. It would bring so much joy to my heart to see her sit next to him on the porch and carry on their very  own  conversation. Then he would give her a lil bag of    m & m's and she would joyfully skip all the way home knowing she had the best friend in the man she so lovingly called Uncle Kelly.
Oh and then there was that jar on his porch filled with doggie biscuits!  One could never pass his house without our doggie yanking on it's leash and running unto Mr. Kelly's porch to receive their special doggie biscuit treat.  They too were special in his eyes. 
He loved his community, his family.  He looked forward to holidays and special occasions to bring everyone together with a block potluck' party. No challenge was too great in his eyes and in his heart he truly believed with God all things were possible. 
Mr. Kelly, we love you dearly and will miss you with all our heart.  You have left a big void in our neighborhood and in our lives . But this day our loss is Heaven's gain!!! Thank you Jesus for bringing     Mr. Kelly in our lives and touching  us so deeply.  
Our deepest sorrow and  prayers are with each and everyone of you, his family in the passing of your dear loved one.  May the good Lord fill you with HIS peace beyond all understanding and may each new day fill you with all the loving memories he has left to share. What a wonderful friend he was to me and my children!!!!! We had so many happy times together celebrating the" growing up " of our children.He was loved by many!!!! Prayers for you Mutt,Cindy and John!!!!

The first time I met Gene he was knocking on my door, inviting me to his famous neighborhood block party. He said, "There'll be dancing in the street."  When I saw his name was Gene Kelly, I said to myself, "Well, of course there will be dancing - lol." Gene was a very special man and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to call him my friend. He's in heaven now, dancing on streets of gold, with his soul mate, Rosie.

Gene Kelly was a fine neighbor.  He loved his home and neighbors.  He was also my lunch buddy on Friday at Daddy's.  Cindy if we can be of any help, just let us know.  He will be greatly missed.  Love Ronnie & Judy Heaton.
