Eva Peggy Russell Shaver, age 90, passed away on June 21, 2013, at her home in Cartersville, Georgia. She was born in Tate, Georgia, on January 10, 1923, to John Duffy Russell and Madoria Norton Russell. She was the middle child of nine brothers and sisters. She met her husband, Charles Troy Shaver, in Atlanta during the Second World War, married and had two sons, Charles Troy Shaver, Jr. and Russell Thomas Shaver. They settled in Orlando, Florida in the 1950’s, where Peggy worked in the office of the John Tate Insurance Agency until she retired. Her husband was a soldier in the Army and served in World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam, receiving Purple hearts in WWII and Viet Nam. Charles passed away in October of 1995. In 2004, Peggy moved to Cartersville, Georgia, to be closer to her family.
Peggy is survived by Troy and Marilyn Shaver and their children, Barrett Shaver and his fiancée Jae Park, and Ryan Shaver; and by Russell and Linda Head Shaver and their children, Jay and his wife Allison Vaughan Shaver, Jon Shaver, Leslie Shaver, and Laura Shaver Jordan and her husband Captain David Jordan. There are two great grandsons by Jay and Allison Shaver, Jacob and Matthew, who were always a welcomed joy whenever they visited their great grandmother.
Peggy loved to travel, and she and her husband took every chance to visit friends and relatives all over the country. They went everywhere from the far Northeast to Northwest and everywhere in between. They had extensive family in the South as well as many friends and visited them all as much as possible. In her travels, Peggy collected assorted rocks or locally mined marble from every state they visited. Charles was a member of the 491st CCC and during the last 30 plus years the group reunited and met often in numerous places and celebrated life together. The remaining members still stay in contact with each other. Peggy’s other great love was flowers and gardening. She had a way with African Violets and Orchids. While in Cartersville, she had both flowers and a small vegetable garden. Peggy was a long time member of the College Park Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida.
Peggy will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Glen Haven Cemetery in Winter Park, Florida at 11:00 am on June 29, 2013.
