Mrs. Shierling was born July 21, 1917 in Villa Rica, Georgia daughter of the late John C. Whitman and Lilly Mae Stevens Whitman. She was very independent throughout her entire life. Gladys always had a great smile, was very funny and always wanted to make you smile with her incredible sense of humor.
In her spare time, she enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, camping, growing vegetables in her garden, and tending to her flowers. She had a green thumb and thoroughly enjoyed growing many things. Gladys was very strong willed and had a great outlook on life.
There were many happenings that impacted the world that she was able to witness. Horse and buggy to motor vehicles, telephones, internet, World War 1, World War II, World Trade Center, etc. These are marks of history that she was able to be a part of that not many can say they were.
Gladys met her husband, Eugene (Gene) Shierling in the 1960’s and they were married for about 30 years until his passing in 1991.
Survivors include nieces, Deborah (Jimmy) Defoor and Shirley Franklin; nephews, Randy (Pamela) West and Brad Cowan.
