

Dr. “Brother “Lowry was the son of Dr. Harold J. Lowry, Sr. and Evelyn Ellis Lowry. He was the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Leslie Levette “L.L.” Lowry of Cartersville and Dr. and Mrs. Charles Lee Ellis of Kingston.
Dr. L.L. Lowry was a long-time dentist in Cartersville. L.L. was succeeded by his son and grandson in the same dental practice located on Erwin Street in Cartersville. The three Lowry’s served the dental needs of the community for over 100 years.
Harold, Sr. served as a dentist in the United States Navy during World War II. He served on a ship in the Pacific Theater. Dr. “Brother” Lowry also served as an active-duty Navy dentist during war time during the Vietnam Conflict from 1968-1970. He served in the Navy reserves for 22 years following achieving the rank of Commander.
Harold Lowry, Sr. and Harold Lowry, Jr. served a total of 50 years in the Navy Dental Corps.
Dr. “Brother” Lowry attended Cartersville High School where he excelled in Football and Track. He was captain of both teams. He was a senior superlative at his graduation in 1962. He subsequently graduated from Marion Military Institute in 1964 with honors. He attended the University of Alabama and graduated from Emory Dental School in 1968.
As a professional dentist, he was designated an Honorable Fellow of the Georgia Dental Association. He was a member of the Southern Academy of Oral Surgery and the American Society of Dentistry for Children. Dr. “Brother” Lowry was a 50-year member of the Georgia Dental Association.
Dr. “Brother” Lowry was active in civic life where he served as president of the local Kiwanis Club. He was in the American Legion. Dr. “Brother” Lowry was a lifelong member of the Cartersville Country Club where he was an avid golfer.
Dr. “Brother” Lowry served 32 years on the Bartow County Health Department Board. He was chairman for 20 of those years. He followed a legacy of service on the board from his father and grandfather.
Dr. Lowry is survived by his wife Diane Dent “Dede” Lowry. He is survived by four children: Kimberly Dawn Lowry Barton (Kevin) of Charlotte, NC, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Lowry of Cartersville, Kristen Gay Lowry Young (Jim) of St. Augustine, FL, April Levette Lowry of Cartersville.
Dr. Lowry is survived by two grandchildren, Sarah Caroline Young and James “Tripp” Young, III of St. Augustine, FL.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Evelyn Lowry Green (Jerry) of Bartow County.
A funeral service will be held at Owen Funeral Home, located at 12 Collins Dr, Cartersville, Georgia, 30120, on Friday, January 2, 2026, starting at 11:00 am. Reverend Bob Ellis, a first cousin of Dr. Lowry, will officiate.
A private interment with military honors will follow at the Lowry Family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery, 319 North Erwin Street, Cartersville, Georgia.
