Henry Thomas Denning

Mr. Denning was born June 28, 1929, in Bartow County, the son of the late, A.I. and Bessie (Blalock) Denning, was retired from Lockheed Georgia Company, where he was a photographer for 42 years. He was an avid gardener, a wonderful woodworker and made wonderful heirlooms for his family and was also a beekeeper, supplying family and friends with his delicious honey for many years.

Thomas was a sergeant in the United States Marine corps and served during the Korean conflict. He was an active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was a member of the Cartersville Masonic Lodge.

Thomas loved his family and his family loved him and will miss him greatly. His greatest joy was teaching his grandchildren and great- grandchildren woodworking , gardening and bee keeping.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers and sisters, A.I. Denning, Jr., Grady Denning, Cecil Denning, Walton Denning, Gertrude Conine, Susie Staples, Nellie Rogers, Lula Pinyan, Mattie Denning, Ettie Denning and Rosie Denning.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Jo Garland Denning of Cartersville, his daughter and son in law, Judy and Jim Smith of Fairmount, grandchildren, Jody and Heather Smith, Jill and Matt Crim, Jake and Jessica Smith, great-grandchildren, Henry, Thomas, David and Isaac Smith, Benjamin and Josephine Crim, Kate and Will Smith, sister, Earline Cagle, brothers and sisters in law, Jerrie Garland, Lamar Garland, Larry and Frieda Garland and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Dewey Atchley officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Fairmount.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:00 noon until the 2:00p.m. funeral hour.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Cagle, James Garland, John Bloodworth, Wayne Jarrett, Barry Garland and Joel Garland.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Brown, Lee Brownlow and Barry Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church or Cemetery and mailed to James Griffith, 1083 Cass-Pine Log Road, Rydal, Georgia 30171.
