Terry was born on October 25, 1942, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Joseph Sanford McCulley and Hettie Heaton. From an early age, he developed the values that would define his life—honesty, a strong work ethic, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he loved.
Terry was known for his love of music, his straightforward nature, and his unwavering willingness to help family and friends whenever they were in need. He believed in showing up, working hard, and doing what was right.
He married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Lindsey, and together they built a life centered on family. Terry was a devoted and proud father to their three children: Lynne Pala, Susan Bishop, and his namesake son, James “Jimmy” T. McCulley, Jr. He took great pride in his children and their lives, and his love for them was constant and steady.
Terry was preceded in death by his twin brother, Thomas McCulley; his brother, Richard Webb; and his parents, Joseph Sanford McCulley and Hettie Heaton.
He is survived by his children, Lynne Pala, Susan Bishop, and James “Jimmy” McCulley, Jr.; his sister, Phyllis Webb Collins; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of strength, integrity, and love for family.
