
James Ivey Slaughter passed away December 27, 2021. Jim was born in Lagrange, Georgia on January 18, 1949, son of Nathaniel and Nancy Ivey Slaughter. The family moved to Cartersville in 1962. Jim graduated from Cartersville High School in 1967 where he made many lifelong friends. He played Varsity basketball and was a member of the 1967 state championship golf team. Jim was the recipient of the first Conatus award at Cartersville High School. After graduation he attended Valdosta State University where he played on the golf team and served as the president of his fraternity.
Jim was employed by Shaw Industries where he enjoyed his 42 year career retiring in 2013 as the Director of Quality.
Jim’s affinity for golf was well known among his friends and members of Cartersville Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors and as a former president.
He was a faithful member of Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Martha Nelson Slaughter. He is also survived by his children James Ivey “Jay” and his wife Lesley Gravley Slaughter and their children Shelby Jo and Savannah; his daughter Ivey Slaughter Durham and her husband Luke Durham and their children Annie and Alice.
He is also survived by his brothers Nat Slaughter (Jerilene), Bob Slaughter (Harriet), step brother Rob Hammond (San), step sisters Ginger Hammond and Rosie Persmark (Magnus) and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his step mother Virginia Hammond Slaughter.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church.
