Janis was born on October 5, 1941, in Moultrie, GA, to the late Opy Kimbrell and Regina Bernice Massey. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Derek McMillan, and grandson, John Ethan McMillan.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Gene McMillan; her son, Stacey McMillan; daughter-in-law, Nadine McMillan; and her cherished granddaughters, Kelly McMillan and Emily McMillan. She also leaves behind her brothers, Troy Massey (Delores) and Randy Massey, along with several nieces and nephews.
Janis was a woman of deep Christian faith and a long-time member of Faith United Methodist Church, where she spent countless hours volunteering and supporting church functions. She loved cooking—especially preparing Thanksgiving dinner for her family—and took great joy in flower gardening. She loved Braves Baseball, Falcons Football and her Georgia Bulldogs.
Janis worked for many years as a clerk at Sears department store, where she was known for her kindness and dedication. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Grandmama,” and she adored them deeply, always putting their needs and happiness above all else.
An avid traveler, Janis and Gene visited all of the lower 48 states and ventured abroad to Scotland, Wales, and England. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who treasured time spent with family.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, beginning at 12:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Providence Cemetery in a private family ceremony.
