She dedicated 34 years of service to Shaw Industries and was known for her strong work ethic and feisty spirit. Jannis had a love for the simple joys in life—spending hours on word searches, feeding her backyard birds, indulging in Milky Ways, and never being without a Coca-Cola in hand.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Chip (Misty) Bates, Jennifer Bates, Sharon Leachman, and Chad (Amy) Teal.
Her memory lives on through her grandchildren: Hailey (Donald) Shepherd, Chelsey (Cody) Adcock, Forrest (Stefanie) Bates, Emily (Justin) Hardin, Taylor (Lacey) Kephart, Kyle Turner, Savannah (Davey) Crump, Alex (Joe) Smith, Michaela (Cody) Ross, Troy Teal, Josh Bates, and Bridget Teal.
She also leaves behind a legacy in her great-grandchildren: Cooper Adcock, Waylon Hardin, Braxton Hardin, Taitlynn Garland, Remi Garland, Coleman Adcock, Rowan Kephart, Bristol Shepherd, Anderson Crump, Brinley Shepherd, Noah Smith, Caroline Ross, Grayson Kephart, Jackson Crump, Charleigh Ross, and Colton Smith.
Jannis is survived by her sister, Kay (Danny) House, her niece Melissa Smith, and nephew Laney (Kassey) House.
A gathering of family and friends for Jannis will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Dr, Cartersville, Georgia 30120, followed by a celebration of life at 7:00 PM.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Homespun Hospice Care for their support and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jannis's honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Shrine Club—two causes close to her heart.
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love, laughter, and sweetness she brought into the world.
