

John was born on September 11, 1949 in Norfolk, VA, son of the late James Joseph Thomas and Barbara Lang Thomas.
John proudly served his country in the 101st Airborne Division in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, for which he was awarded the Soldier's Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star. After moving to Atlanta, John worked as an independent construction contractor. He then worked for Georgia Messenger as a corporate courier until the time of his death. He was an avid dart player and was a member of the Buckhead Dart League, serving as its president for the past twenty-five years. In his spare time, he enjoyed working with his hands, tending to his garden and aquarium, and sharing and cooking his home-grown vegetables.
John is preceded in death by his sister, Ann Thomas Bond of VA.
Survivors include his beloved daughter, Katherine Louise Thomas of Acworth, GA; brothers, James (Jean) Thomas of VA and Joe (Julie) Thomas of Decatur, GA; sisters, Maureen Thomas Osier of TX and Kathleen Thomas Constant of RI; and several nieces and nephews.
