Jorge was born in the Manhattan borough of NYC in 1964 to his Cuban immigrant parents, Eloy and Orlindes. He shared a beloved childhood in Puerto Rico and Miami with his sister Orli, brother Eloy and the large extended Alonso family.
Jorge was a proud Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket and graduated in 1986 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. While at Georgia Tech he met the love of his life, Mary (Beth), to whom he was married for 37 years. They lived in Miami for many years before relocating to Kennesaw.
Jorge served as a Senior Analyst Engineer with Bellsouth (later ATT) until his retirement in 2018. He was especially proud to be a part of the company emergency response team serving victims of natural disasters in the southeast.
Jorge’s devotion to his family was the cornerstone of his life. He cherished regular family get-togethers at the beach, mountain cabins, the lake or just the backyard. He spent many happy hours with family and friends walking trails and exploring new cities and national parks. Jorge had a gift for making connections with people wherever he would go and kept expanding his circle even in his last days. He loved road trips and always preferred to take the scenic route whenever possible. To him, the journey was always the best part.
Jorge was an avid sports fan with a special love for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Miami Dolphins and any team from Florida. In Kennesaw, he coached youth track and served in leadership positions with the school PTAs and Watch Dog organizations. By far his favorite pastime was watching his daughter perform by playing the piano and bass, dancing onstage or on the field, acting in school plays or playing sports.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alonso of White, GA; his daughter Kaitlyn (Katie) Alonso of Smyrna, GA; his father Eloy E. Alonso of Miami, FL; his sister Orlindes Perez of Miami, FL and his brother Eloy J. Alonso of Gastonia, SC as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be conducted at Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville, GA on Saturday February 7, 2026 at 1pm. The family will receive friends from 12pm until 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
