Lillian “Marie” Carpenter Hendricks age 94 of Cartersville passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 26, 2024. She was born on April 29, 1930, to Claude and Leone (Lavasque) Carpenter.
In addition to her parents, Marie is preceded in death by her husband Howard “Bug” Hendricks, Jr. to whom she was married for 66 years when he passed in 2016; her sisters and their husbands Mildred & Clifton Keith, Claudine & Rass Hamrick, Sara Nell & Harry Lipscomb; brothers-in-law Cecil Waits, L.G. Hendricks, Brad Hendricks, Everett Hendricks and his wife Betty Jo Hendricks.
Marie is survived by her daughter Cathy Hendrix and her husband Ricky Hendrix, who was like her own son; grandson Scott Hendrix and his wife Kelley Hendrix; granddaughter Anna Hagenau and her husband Andy Hagenau; great-grandchildren Audrey Hagenau, AC Hagenau, Parker Hendrix, and Oaklyn Hendrix; her sister Mary Ann Waits; her sister-in-law Sharon Hendricks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In 1947, Marie graduated from Pine Log High School, where she played on the school’s basketball team with one of her best friends the late Dot Dooley. Later, she worked at Clyde Grace Dress Shop in downtown Cartersville, EZ Mills also in Cartersville, and for 26 years at the Cartersville Primary Lunchroom, where she and her lunchroom supervisor the late Sarah Pinson became life-long friends.
Marie spent her life as a dedicated Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many people. She loved gospel music, working in her garden and yard, and spending time with her family, especially cooking for them every Sunday; her pecan pies, chocolate pies, and chocolate chip cookies were family favorites.
Marie always had a smile. Even when her health began to fail, she would smile and say “I’m fine, how are you?”. Always concerned about others, she was a prayer warrior and put other’s needs above her own. She was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and she loved her ladies Sunday School classes lead by Betty Beck and most recently by Sharon Seabolt.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Manor Lake Memory Care, Maple Ridge rehab, special caregivers Betty Boston and Cherry Huck, her Sunday School classmates, and her Brookwood Drive neighbors for their love and support.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 4th at 2:00pm at the Owen Funeral Home Chapel with Trinity Hospice Chaplin Michael Westmoreland, Scott Hendrix, and Richard Brown officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from Noon to 2:00pm at Owen Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at White Cemetery.
