Mae was born on August 2, 1939, in Cartersville, Georgia, to the late Mr. Henry E. and Mrs. Hazel I. Pruitt.
Mae grew up attending Cartersville City Schools, and graduated from Cartersville High School in 1957. She went on to nursing school at Marietta Cobb Vocational Technical College, where she received her Associates Degree in Nursing, and went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked with her mother in private nursing for many years, rotating daytime and nighttime shifts with her, who was also an LPN. She went on to become the Activities Director at Springdale Convalescence Center (now Cartersville Heights) in Cartersville, where she worked until she retired in 2008. She took a lot of pride in her job, and was passionate about serving her patients and their families. She was known to, occasionally, take her patients on unauthorized field trips, including taking four patients on an airplane ride, bringing patients to her home for home cooked meals, and taking patients (who were physically able, of course) on rides on her husband's and son's motorcycles. As additional entertainment for her patients, she was also known to take her son's pet goat, Bucket, to work, where she would let it roam the halls and visit with the patients. She would keep a busy activities calendar for each month, and would include such things as an annual dance, a pet day, Elvis day, Sunday services each week, and hair and beauty day, just to name a few. She was an incredibly generous and loving person, and she will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Mae is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother, Henry F. Pruitt.
She is survived by her brother, William Troy (Jackie) Pruitt; her son, Mark (Emily) Beavers; her two grandsons, Ethan and Evan Beavers; and her nephews, Keith (Beckie) and Darren Pruitt, Eric and Joey Beavers.
