Moryl Spencer Messer

Mr. Messer was born on July 17, 1943 in Lawrenceburg, TN, son of the late Spencer Messer and Cynthia Ellen Laws Messer.

Mr. Messer proudly served his country in the Navy where he was an Aircraft Riveter and was the recipient of an Expeditionary Medal for his tour of duty in Guam. He was a dedicated employee of Woods Fabrication where he was a machinist. Mr. Messer loved to work with his hands and was always tinkering around his house and working with his tools in his shop. He loved to drive his Ford tractor and tend to his yard and gardens. His wife, children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and in their eyes, he was capable of fixing anything.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jody Messer; daughter, Melissa (Travis) Flemons of Adairsville, GA; son, Michael (Nikki Barton)Messer of Cartersville, GA; grandchildren, Dawson and Madison Flemons and Colt Barton; brothers, Arvis Messer of Cartersville, Stan Messer of FL, Clifford Messer of Cartersville, GA and Larry Messer of FL; sisters, Vicky Hyde of Jasper, GA, Melba Hackett of VA and Sharron Wright of Rome, GA; a host of nieces and nephews; special daughter, Becky (Tim) Evans of Cartersville, GA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Nevin Harne officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Tim Forsyth, Ricky Woods, Hank Woods, Gilbert Gentry, Larry Harris and Shea Moore.

Visitation will be held from five o’clock in the evening until eight on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Owen Funeral Home.
