Patricia Ann Habers, age 84, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020. Mrs. Habers was born on July 10, 1936 in Belleville, IL, daughter of the late Maurice Schmeder and Vernalee Mayer Schmeder. Mrs. Habers was a long-time resident of Kings Park, NY for many years before she moved to Cartersville, GA.
Mrs. Habers truly excelled and loved sports since she was a little girl where she was always picked first on the boys’ teams. Pat officiated field hockey and basketball, coached bowling, coached and officiated volleyball and softball on Long Island, NY for decades. She earned the NY State Field Hockey Official of the Year Award in 2001. She was a nationally ranked field hockey official traveling nationwide organizing clinics and running up and down the hockey field into her late 70s. One of her proudest moments was being one of the first women inducted into the Suffolk County, Long Island, NY Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
Mrs. Habers was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and a proud and active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Pat had an exceptional voice and thrived on sharing her love of the Lord through singing in the church choir. She was an outstanding cook, enjoyed spending time outdoors tending to her gardens, and had a great love of dogs and horses. Christmas was her favorite time of the year and she loved sharing her joy with friends and family by entertaining and beautifully decorating her entire house for the season. Pat was passionate about God and Country and had endless energy and enthusiasm in life. She had seemingly endless interests, hobbies, and experiences that enabled her to carry on a conversation about any topic. People were drawn to her charismatic personality and she was always the life of the party. Pat was also active in her community, serving on her HOA and volunteering for Bartow County Department of Family and Child Services as a case reviewer. The pride and joy of her life were her two sons, Paul and Scott and her only grandchild and granddaughter, Nadia. Mrs. Habers was an outgoing, loving, and social person who never turned away from anyone in need.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, John Habers; sons, Paul and Scott (Natasha) Habers; granddaughter, Nadia; brothers, David (Karen) Tylka and Mallory Schmeder. A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held from four o'clock in the afternoon until seven on Thursday, the 10th of September, 2020 at Owen Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Tuesday, the 27th of October, 2020 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Don Startup officiating. Interment will follow in the GA National Cemetery.
