Philip J. Hughes

Philip (Phil) Hughes, age 84, passed away at his home in Cartersville, Ga., on July

15,2010. Phil was born on March 29,1926 in Mobile, Ala. to Philip J. Hughes Sr. and

Josephine Brown. Phil graduated from Auburn University and went to work at NASA,

then in 1954 came to work at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, Marietta,Ga. He worked in

the Engineering Material & Structural Test Lab as a Department Manager most of his

time at Lockheed. His department worked on all the different aircraft Lockheed

manufactured, from the C130 to the C5A. He retired from Lockheed in 1986.

Phil and is wife of 63 years, May Eleanor Rice Hughes moved to Blue Ridge Georgia in

1999. They lived in the Blue Ridge Village Community until 2009. While in Blue Ridge

they attended Cherry Log Christian Church and enjoyed their time together in this small

Mountain Town. Phil also enjoyed Wood Working Projects, Fishing. Boating, Hunting,

Cooking and especially spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include is wife May Eleanor (Maidy) Rice Hughes. Sons and daughter in law

Mike and Laurie Hughes, Jeff and Lisa Hughes and Bart and Cathy Hughes. One daughter

and son in law, Melissa Hughes and Mickey Duncan. Phil's sisters and brother Mary

Freeland, Jo Lange, Mary Jane Jones and Bill Hughes. Six grandchildren Brook, Barkley,

Jake, Haley, Heath and Hope. Three great grandchildren Taylor, Peyton and Jordan.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to the American Cancer Society

or The Alzheimer's Association in Phil's memory.

Visitation and a Memorial Service will be held on July 24,2010 at Owen Funeral Home

located at 12 Collins Drive SE, Cartersville, Ga. 30120 phone number is 770-382-3030.

Visitation will begin at 2:30 pm and the Memorial service will begin at 4:00 pm.
