

Mr. Strain was born on July 14, 1930, in Emerson, Ga, to John Wesley and Clara Ellen (Ingram) Strain. He was educated in the Cartersville School System and afterwards served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. He enjoyed a long career with Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Ga retiring in 1993. He was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. His true passion was introducing others to Jesus Christ through personal evangelism. He exercised this passion through participation in local prison ministry, sharing God’s Word through the Gideons, and supporting global gospel proclamation through various evangelistic and mission organizations. His other passions included spending time with his family, family reunions, gardening, reading, and following local sports teams.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Strain was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Joyce Armstrong Strain and siblings Milton, John, Bill, Joe, Betty Strain Boggs, and Leon Strain.
He is survived by his sons Hal (Leigh Anne), Greg (Lisa) and Dan (Andrea), his granddaughters Kristen Strain Mize, Jessica, Kayla, Bethany, Hannah, and Haleigh Strain, and great-granddaughter Kinsley Marie Mize. He is also survived by his siblings Helen (Dick) Haynie and Myron (Marilyn) Strain, sisters-in-laws Elsie Strain, Dora Strain, Kathleen Strain and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 27, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Cartersville First Baptist Church, 241 Douthit Ferry Rd Cartersville, with Dr. Kyle Walker officiating.
The interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, 790 Indian Mound Rd SE Cartersville.
The family will receive friends at Owen Funeral Home Saturday evening, October 26, 2019, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
