William "Buck Shot" Kevin Roberts

William Kevin Roberts, 49, of Cartersville, Georgia left to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 21, 2019. His family found him that evening sitting peacefully in his tree stand where he had set out to hunt that morning. He loved music, family, friends, UGA football, disc golf, and hunting, but most of all, he loved his Lord, Jesus Christ.

Kevin was born in Floyd County on June 6, 1970, son of “Tony” Anthony George William Roberts and Stephanie Gay Sullivan Roberts.

Kevin had an adventurous childhood growing up in Cartersville and graduated from Cass High School. He was an active member of the Gilmer Street Baptist Church youth group where he formed lifelong friendships. He then headed off to Reinhardt College on an Art Scholarship where he joined and eventually became president of Sigma Phi Nu fraternity in 1990. It was there that he met some of his closest friends. He went on to obtain various degrees from the University of Georgia, Kennesaw University, Piedmont College and finished at Jacksonville State University.

He had a passion for working with young people and coached baseball at Cass Middle School and East Paulding High School. He coached several championship JV teams during his years at East Paulding High. He spent the last ten years working as a physical education teacher at Northside Elementary School. His dachshund, “Bobo,” would come to work with him each day and became something of a school mascot, which, of course, the kids enjoyed. Kevin loved what he did, and he was treasured by the community he served.

He was a hero to his family - especially to his father, Tony Roberts. In 2016 Kevin performed CPR on his father following a sudden cardiac arrest and continued to do so until an ambulance arrived several minutes later and received an award for his actions. You could depend on Kevin no matter what the situation was. He had a big heart and was generous to support the needy in the community, though he kept that to himself. He was never one to boast, but he was always there when you needed him.

He was dearly loved, and he will be forever missed by his many friends, students, and especially his family.

Kevin is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Ruth Roberts; grandfathers, Daniel Sullivan and D.W. Fox; grandmother, Georgina Roberts; great-grandparents, Dayton and Nan Kay Roberts.

Survivors include his parents, Tony and MaryAnn Roberts of Cartersville, GA; mother, Stephanie Roberts of Arlington, Texas; brothers, Todd (Dawn) Roberts and Chris (Lindsey) Roberts, all of Cartersville, GA; aunts, Sharon (Steve) Clements of Scottsboro, AL, Janie Sullivan of Newnan, GA; grandmother, Jeanette Fox of Cartersville; nieces and nephews, Emily, Grayson and Jared Roberts, Jacob, Gavin and Jillian Roberts, all of Cartersville, GA; several cousins; best friend, Sammie Roper; beloved dog, Bobo.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 28th of December, 2019 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Harris officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Brent Lovett, Galen McDaniel, Jeffrey Harris, Jeff Holland, Scott Lowrey, Randy Knight and Ricky Darnell.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are his Reinhardt fraternity, Sigma Phi Nu alumni brothers.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o’clock in the evening until eight on Friday the 27th of December, 2019 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home.
