Adelaide was born May 6, 1917 in Tarboro, NC to the late Cicero Price and Beulah Best Price. Those that knew our mother knew the spirit of her life. Her laugh, her love of gatherings, the many trips she took with so many friends, and her ever present energy made her a much beloved friend to many. She cherished many relationships through the Johnson Pettigrew Chapter of the UDC, as a lifetime member of the Drewery Hills Garden Club and the Raleigh Garden Club. Her deepest love, which she served for over 30 years as a volunteer and then as an emeritus, was for the NC Museum of Art as a docent.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, retired Lt. Col. Clarence R. Joyce.
Adelaide is survived by her daughter, Clarissa Odom of Fayetteville; son, Tim Joyce, wife Diane, of Cary; brothers, Frank Price, wife Claudia, of Garner; Jimmy Price, wife Nancy, of Richmond, VA; grandsons Doug Odom; Alex Odom, wife Amy; Matthew Joyce; Russell Joyce; Andrew Joyce; great grandchildren Trammell, Virginia and Alexander Odom.
A family graveside service will be held at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
The family can not begin to thank the staff of Woodland Terrace and Spring Arbor for the tender love and care bestowed upon our mother in her last years. Your acts of grace and kindness have not gone unnoticed. Of special note we wish to thank her life long friends who have stood by her for years, being a part of her journeys, plays and ballets. A special thank you to the staff of Amedisys Hospice Service, and especially to her care giver Mahogany who became her soul mate over the last years. May God bless each of you who have ministered to our mom in so many ways in her life.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her honor to the NCMA Foundation c/o Docent Lecture Endowment.
