

Alfred is preceded in death by his parents: Alfredo and Luz Cazares; by his beloved wife: Margarita Cazares and daughter: Patricia McLelland. He is survived by his sister: Consuelo Reyna (Lee); his children Linda Cazares, Christina Autrey (Jay), Alfred Rey Cazares, Robert Cazares and Melissa Beeson (Dwight); six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Alfred came from modest beginnings and was the first in his family to graduate from college. Since childhood he aspired to serve in the military. Upon graduating from the University of Texas, he was commissioned into the US Marine Corps where he spent 32 years before retiring at the rank of Colonel.
He proudly served both domestically and abroad, receiving an incredible number of awards and medals. After retiring, he began a second career working for Wake County Government where he spent another 32 years. His time there was highlighted in 1994 when he was awarded Employee of the Year for all of Wake County. Alfred gave generously to a number of charities: he co-organized the United Way campaign for Wake County, helped with the Toys for Tots drive and tutor/mentored several students through the Community in Schools Program.
He has been a hospitality minister for St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for over 30 years. Alfred loved reading, woodworking, photography and computers. He leaves behind a legacy of memories and achievements to all who knew and loved him.
Memorial Services for Mr. Cazares will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 1:00 pm at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church - 804 High House Road - Cary, NC 27513. Inurnment, with Military Honors, will follow at the Church Columbarium.
