Al Kornegay Jr., born November 3, 1966, died on March 3, 2016 after a long illness with a very rare disease. Al was diagnosed with Histiocytosis X at 20 years of age. The disease caused him to have short-term memory loss, and he became disabled in 2000. He worked with Kornegay Septic Tank and Long Transportation as a drive and then as a dispatcher. He enjoyed every minute working in the trucking business.
He is preceded in death by his father, Alton A. Kornegay; survived by his son, Alston Kornegay; daughter, Lily Kornegay; mother, Enza Kornegay; sister Linda Clifford and husband John, of DeLand, Florida; aunt, Paulina Doyle of Indianapolis, Indiana; and longtime friends Wendy Lancaster and Stephanie Williams. Special acknowledgements to his caregivers: Marie, Topanga, and Angela, whom he continually thanks for all they did. His mother would like to thank everyone that called and took the time to visit.
Al would like for you to know: “After all my trials and troubles, God has called me home. I go now to spend my life with Him, my Father, my friend, my hope. I will stand beside Him. It has been a hard road. I love my children, Alston and Lily, my daddy and my mother. My mother tried so hard to help me and make my life better.”
Visitation will be held 6-8 pm on Monday, March 7, 2016, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Richard Franklin on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh.
