Amelia was one of four children to the late James Vincent Ottoman and Mary (Clairio) Ottoman. She was born in Syracuse, New York on the 4th of July in 1931. She was known to everyone as "Millie" and she worked many small jobs before starting her career at General Electric where she met her husband of 75 years, John Young.
Millie and John started their family while living in New York. First was a son, Gary and then came a daughter, Linda. It would be 9 years before the next child, which was a son, James / "Jimmy". Several years would past and then Millie had her last child, another daughter, Sandra.
Family was everything to Millie, she loved her children and grandchildren, she was always their biggest fan and their first defender. Not only did she love taking care of her children, but she also loved feeding and entertaining all their friends after school had let out and even on late nights. Millie was and excellent cook and baker and loved to share that talent by sharing with others.
Millie was quite the social butterfly, she and John loved to go dancing and even belonged to a square-dancing club. She was known to never have met a stranger; Millie could always find something to talk about with those she had just met. When she and John would take their little camper to FL and other vacation spots, they would come home with some new friends that had been added to their address book.
The best thing that Millie was known for was her sense of fashion and style, she was certainly a classy lady. Always dressed in the latest styles and looking like a million bucks with her hair fixed and her red lipstick. She and her daughters and other family would go shopping for the day and would shop until they dropped! It was her absolute favorite thing to do. Millie was an excellent seamstress making beautiful ball gowns, her own clothes and her childrens clothes when they were young. She even dabbled in some upholstery work by making her own cloth covered headboards, curtains, and other home accent items. She could see something in a store that she liked and would come home and make it herself.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, Lucy Pavia and Mary Larkins as well as her loving husband John, who died in August of 2024. She is survived by her children; Gary Young (Lee), Linda Young, James Young (Betsy), Sandra Young Jenkins (Russell). Her Grandchildren; Cheryl, Corey, Ashlee, and Andrew.
