Born on September 8, 1930, in Norwalk, Connecticut, Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late William H. Quaas and Helen M. Quaas. She carried with her throughout her life the values of kindness, resilience, and devotion to family that were instilled in her from an early age.
Barbara lived a long and fulfilling life marked by hard work, warmth, and dedication to those around her. Her final professional chapter was spent as a receptionist at SAS Institute in Cary, where her friendly smile and welcoming presence left a lasting impression on colleagues and visitors alike. She took pride in her work and cherished the relationships she built there.
Beyond her deep devotion to her children, Barbara made numerous lifelong friends wherever she went. Her passion for social activities—especially playing Bridge and enthusiastically rooting for her beloved Tar Heels—kept her active and engaged throughout her life. She truly never met a stranger, and her welcoming spirit and gift for conversation brought joy to all who knew her.
Above all, Barbara was devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Rossi of Cary, NC; her three sons, Gary Cassidy (Robbie) of Port Saint Lucie, FL; Curt Cassidy (Robin) of Plantation, FL; and Chris Cassidy of Fort Pierce, FL; and her cherished granddaughter, Rachel Cassidy-Moench (Chris) of Providence, RI. She is also survived by three nieces and several cousins, all of whom will remember her with deep affection.
A visitation will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary on March 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Barbara’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Barbara will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and the grace with which she lived her 95 years. Her legacy of kindness, friendship, and love will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
