

Carolyn Bridgers Flinchum passed away at Duke University Hospital on Friday, December 28, 2012 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was born in Newport News, VA, the daughter of the late William H. and Myrl Gray Bridgers of Newport News, VA.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Phil Flinchum, whom showed exemplary love and devotion to her. She is also survived by her son, Keith Flinchum of Raleigh; 2 grandchildren, Vanessa and Lance Flinchum of Raleigh; brother, Ivy Bridgers and wife, Lorna, of Jacksonville, FL; niece, Elizabeth Bridgers Scheuerman of CA; and numerous cousins.
Carolyn was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was a graduate of Warrick High School in Newport News, VA and attended Hampton Road School of Music.
She was choir director for a few years at Macedonia Baptist Church, and also played the piano for funerals and weddings. She taught music at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church Pre-School for many years, and taught piano lessons in her home.
She was an avid reader, and thoroughly enjoyed sewing. Her passion was spending time with her grandchildren, and relaxing for hours at the beach.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
