Cathy exuded life, resilience, and an unstoppable energy that made every moment with her unforgettable. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a shining example of strength and grace. Her vivacious spirit and boundless creativity touched all who knew her, and her warmth made everyone feel at home in her presence.
Born on January 1, 1951, to the late Murray and Virginia Williams of Union County, NC, Cathy’s passion for art and design led her to Wingate College, where she met the love of her life, Larry Stone. She was crowned Miss Wingate in 1970 before earning her Bachelor’s degree in Art from Appalachian State University in 1973, followed by a Master’s degree in Art Education. Cathy and Larry soon began their life together, a journey filled with love, adventure, and unwavering partnership.
Cathy was an artist in every sense—whether through painting, sculpture, fashion, or interior and landscape design, she transformed everything she touched into something beautiful. She shared this passion as an art educator, inspiring countless young students to see the world through a creative lens.
In 1981, Cathy embraced her most cherished role—that of a mother—with the birth of her son, David, followed by her daughter, Stanton, in 1984. She was the heart of her family, filling their lives with laughter, creativity, and the irresistible aroma of southern cooking. Through every chapter, Larry, stood by her side, caring for her in every way imaginable. His unwavering love, strength, and sharp sarcastic humor kept her laughing even in the hardest moments. Their bond was built on deep respect, shared laughter, and an unbreakable partnership that carried them through life’s greatest joys and challenges.
Later, Cathy earned a degree in opticianry, applying her eye for beauty to help others find confidence through their eyewear. She played an integral role in building and operating the family’s optical business while continuing to make their home a masterpiece—both inside and out.
Cathy’s personality was magnetic—vibrant, kind, and full of laughter. She made friends everywhere she went, and even in her final years, she faced each challenge with incredible strength, never losing her warmth, humor, or ability to uplift others.
Cathy’s spirit remains a powerful force—a legacy of love, creativity, and resilience. She is deeply missed but forever cherished.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Larry Stone; her daughter, Stanton Stone; her sister, Rebecca Medlin. She is reunited in peace with her son, David Stone, her brother, Murray Williams, Jr., and her sister, Myra Austin.
