Donald grew up in Beulaville, NC where he graduated at East Duplin High School; top of his class with studies in Math and Science. He played varsity sports in baseball, basketball, and football. Donald continued his education at North Carolina State University where he received a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering and also obtained certification with the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering throughout his career.
An active runner and cyclist, he accomplished feats of completing the Marine Corps Marathon of over 26 miles, and numerous rides including The Assault on Mt. Mitchell of 103 mile terrain in the Blue Ridge Mountains. However his true passion developed after spending time with his son’s sporting events which lead him to be involved in coaching of Little League Baseball and Youth Soccer.
Family, friends, and colleagues along the walk of his life journey always knew Donald as a kind, gentle, person willing to lend a helping hand without asking question. Heaven has now gained a true gentleman. We will see you again soon.
Donald is survived by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Jones Edwards; son, Alex Edwards; mother, Maxine Edwards of Beulaville; a sister, Kay Alkire of New Bern; and brothers McKinley Edwards of Raleigh, and Neil and Terry of Beulaville.
