He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; daughters, Leslie Vaughan (Rob) and Kendall Ogren (Tim); sons, Tom Wiegand (Rebecca), Michael Wiegand, and Scott Wiegand (Heather); honorary son, Frank Lash (Wendy); grandchildren, Libby and Virginia Ogren, Max and Sam Reid, Jared and Caleb Wiegand, Wesley and Alison Wiegand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Anna Swain, and brothers, Eugene and Raymond Swain.
He was loved by many nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Don was born in Pulaski, VA on March 8, 1936. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1954 as class president. He left Pulaski and attended The College of William and Mary, where he received a bachelor in economics and business in 1959. He was a member of the Army ROTC. He moved to Newport News, VA after graduation, and worked at the shipyard as a recruiter, until he bought Jacks Salads in Newport News, VA, which he sold to Campbell Soup around the year of 1984. He married Ann Swain in 1995, and they lived and traveled all over the world together. He was a huge college football fan who loved the William and Mary Tribe, and was a season ticket holder for over 40 years. He will be remembered as a great husband, father, and grandfather, as well as for his wise advice, "Be Sure's", funny sense of humor, love of his wife and family, hamburgers, and martinis!
