Doreen “Doe” Yates Duncan, age 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Raleigh, NC on 4/12/17 surrounded by the love of her family. She was born February 11, 1929 in Thorold, Ontario, Canada to Tom and Eleanor Yates. Doe moved to the US in the early 1950’s, and made her home in Cary/Raleigh NC for more than 60 years. She retired from NC State University in 1992.
Doe was an accomplished artist, world traveler, voracious reader, skilled bowler, avid theatre-goer, animal lover, chocoholic, and die-hard NC State fan. Her favorite activity was anything done with her family, and they will cherish many memories of time spent together. She was fiercely proud of her children and grandchildren and supported them in their every endeavor. Her greatest legacy is the love and strength of her family.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Darrel Duncan, son Lawrence (Trey) Emerson and daughter in law Kristen Emerson. Doe leaves behind her children Brad (Donna) Emerson, Laura (Richard) Edwards, stepsons Dennis (Irene) Duncan, Rick (Bev) Duncan and grandchildren Zachary (Amber) Emerson, Jessica and Cassidy Edwards, Hannah Baker, Aaron and Daniel McGee, Sean, John and Dan Duncan, great-grandchildren Emery and Delaney Baker, her sister Marguerite Campbell, nephews Doug Campbell, Ken (Shelley) Campbell and great nieces Kym, Ashley and Kristin Campbell and co-mother in law Lydia Edwards.
Doe leaves many friends and neighbors who were so special to her and will miss her terribly. The family will receive visitors at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at Cary Presbyterian Church.
She loved her family pets Buoy, Layla, Cleo, Aunika and Shadow, so in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Doe’s honor to the SPCA of Wake County.
