

She was born on June 20, 1927 in LaCrosse, WI, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Moe Johnson. She graduated from LaCrosse High School in LaCrosse, WI in 1945. Mrs. Burns enjoyed reading, cross-word puzzles, walking the beach and collecting shark’s teeth, and surf-fishing with her husband at Topsail Beach and Ocracoke Island. Her greatest joy and where she spent most of her time was in making a loving home and raising and caring for her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Johnson Klawitter.
Mrs. Burns is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, James Robert Burns; 3 daughters, Lea Ann Franks of Cary, Lynn Marie Burns of Raleigh, and Jo Dee Strange and husband, Todd of Lincoln University, PA; 5 grandchildren, Caitlyn and Casey Franks of Clayton, Sterling Gaster of Knightdale, and Aaron and Thomas Strange of Lincoln University, PA; and great-grandson, Thomas Gaster of Knightdale. Mrs. Burns is also survived by her sister, LaVonne Johnson Wilder of LaCrosse, WI and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
