Elaine Beard Mainer

Elaine was born on May 3, 1945, in Guilford County, NC, to the late Robert Barry and Elinore Linen Beard. She died August 5, 2014, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC after complications from infections due to her on-going battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

Elaine spent much of her childhood in Sanford, NC, where she grew up riding horses and attended Sanford Central High. After high school, Elaine attended Lees McRae College where she graduated with honors as a Medical Secretary.

She married the late Daniel I. Mainer in 1976, and in the years following had two girls, Amy, and Megan. She was a very loyal wife, mother, grandmother and friend. After retiring from North Hills Internal Medicine in 2010, she spent time taking care of her four grandchildren, and participating in choir and youth activities at Good Hope Baptist Church in Cary, NC.

Her spunky, vivacious attitude and smile will be greatly missed by everyone.

Elaine is survived by her son, Van (Meg) Mainer, of Raleigh, NC; son, Ken Mainer, of Princeton, NC; daughter, Amy (Reggie) Griffin of Holly Springs, NC; daughter, Megan (Josh) Ferguson, of Morrisville, NC; grandchildren, Allison and DJ Griffin, and Tyler and Peyton Ferguson; and her loving corgi, Daisy.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Good Hope Baptist Church, 6628 Good Hope Church Road, Cary, NC 27519 starting at 10:00am with a service following at 11:00am. A graveside service will be held later in the afternoon at 3:00pm at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612.
