With heavy hearts and tremendous sadness, the family of Eric R. Noderer of Raleigh, regretfully announces the passing of their son, father and brother. Eric at last found peace that for so long eluded him on Friday, January 29, 2016, at age 37, following a long and arduous struggle with addiction.
Eric was born January 6, 1978 in Rochester, MN. Left behind are his parents, Bob and Melissa Noderer of Cary, NC; his beloved daughter, Lauren K. Wright of Raleigh; his sister, Leah Noderer Damron, and family in Mequon, WI; and his brother, Adam T. Noderer and family of Cincinnati, OH.
Eric attended high school at Blue Ridge School in St. George, VA. He was an ice hockey player from the time he was four years old until he was a young adult, and remained so much a fan of the sport that he named his beloved puppy Ogie Ogilthorpe, after the character in the movie Slap Shot. He was a skilled plumber, an avid reader, a novice surfer, and loved all genres of music.
Eric also lived for a time in South Florida and New York City. He left behind many dear friends in both places, as well as in Raleigh. As his family, we are grateful for and wish to sincerely thank these wonderful souls, many of whom stood by our son and brother during the times when he most needed a friend. We are also thankful that so many of his friends have been in touch to share in our grief, and also share their memories of him. Over and over again we have heard Eric described as kind, caring, and compassionate -- a spiritual, beautiful soul. Despite his own battle with addiction, several noted that at times Eric lent great support to them in their most dire hours, offering words of comfort and encouragement, usually with his signature screwball, off the wall sense of humor. Stories of Eric’s oftentimes irreverent, sometimes audacious, and always hilarious antics have had us laughing through our tears these past few days, and we cannot begin to describe how grateful we are that people have taken the time to share them with us.
We know that addiction knows no boundaries; it is not one to discriminate. The Noderer family deeply appreciates the dedication and care that North Carolina Recovery Services (NCRSS) provides for their clients, to help them with their recovery efforts.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to honor Eric’s life, may be made to NCRSS, ATTN: Clara Downing Bain, 1100 Navaho Drive, Suite #125 Raleigh, NC 27609.
Please join our family for a memorial service to honor Eric this Friday, February 5th at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC. Visitation is from 10:00-11:00am and the memorial service is at 11:00 am.
