She graduated from Syracuse University, Bachelor of Science, in 1970 and went on to University of Maryland, where she graduated with a Master of Science in 1975. She was a member of MENSA, the High IQ Society. Shortly after graduate school, her family relocated to Chapel Hill, NC where she resided for over 40 years.
Frances worked at Burroughs Wellcome (GlaxcoSmithKline) for over 20 years, spending most of that time doing clinical research before retiring in 2004.
Over the years, Frances enjoyed a variety of crafting, such as cross-stitch, knitting, and stained glass making. She was a supporter of the arts community; attending local college theater productions, performing in the choir with The Durham Savoyards, and watching The American Ballet Company performances. In her later years, it brought her joy to bring her grandchildren with her to these events. She enjoyed traveling the world with her mother, going to places like Alaska, Cairo, Egypt (during an earthquake!), Australia, and several countries in Europe (just to name a few!). Most recently, Frances spent time watching her grandchildren’s ball games in Apex, NC.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Bill) Hickey, her grandchildren, Madison & Tyler Hickey, her brother, Jay (Marsha) Greenstein, her nephew, Jonathan Greenstein, her niece, Dara (Devin) Hyfield, as well her extended family and an abundance of friends.
There will be a funeral service held in her honor on Sunday, October 31st at 12 PM, attended by close family and friends. Shiva will be held following the service at the Hickey home.
