Fred is survived by: His wife of almost 52 years, Gladys Nevils Lawing of Cary, NC. His daughter Martha Elizabeth Soyars and husband, Mark Randall Soyars of Cary North Carolina. His daughter Barbara Anne Creech and husband Ludie Elton Creech, Jr. of Longford, Ireland. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Christa Soyars, Alexander Soyars, Griffin Creech, Ruth Creech, Emily Creech and Lila Creech. He is also survived by his brother, John Lawing and wife Jane, of Marion, NC. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family.
Fred was born in Union Mills, NC on May 20, 1940 to the late Clide Elizabeth Tate and Fred Jefferson Lawing. In 1958, he graduated from high school in Marion, NC. He then served as a signalman in the US Navy from 1958-1962. He graduated from Carson Newman College with a degree in Political Science in 1966. From 1966-1995 he was employed by IBM in offices in VA, NY and NC. He will be remembered as a servant of God in the churches where they lived through various roles as deacon, Bible teacher of children, youth and adults, and a missions volunteer. His characteristics we will always cherish are of him being a gentleman, mentor, encourager and his wonderful sense of humour, and his love of ice cream.
