

George is survived by his wife, Barb Wilder, and his three children, Nicholas Wilder, Matthew Wilder, and Emily Motta (Ryan Motta). He is also survived by his parents George Warren Wilder II (Lynn Wilder) and Caroline Mary Casey (John J. Casey). He was predeceased by his sister, Maria Patch.
George was born on June 27, 1966, and grew up in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He spent a few childhood summers in New Hampshire where he developed a love for the Patriots and Red Sox and played many rounds of golf with his father. The duo would later go on to win their country club’s parent-child golf championship in 1989. George was an Eagle Scout, went camping every summer with his mom and sister, and in high school joined the debate team and ran long distance track. He attended NC State University, graduated with degrees in electrical engineering, computer science, and computer engineering, and was a lifelong supporter of the Wolfpack.
He began a software career in 1989 at SAS Institute in Cary, NC, where he would serve through 2022. Shortly after starting at SAS, he met Barb, fell in love, and would go on to marry her 1½ years later on December 28, 1991. They bought a house together in Apex, NC where they would grow, mature, have children, adopt many animals (Frida, Gus, Heather, Sandy, Murphy, Max, Bentley, Piper, and Zeke) and spend 30 years of marriage together. George spent countless selfless hours helping his children with their homework and driving them to various sports practices, games, and meets as they grew up. His Christian faith was important to him, and he loved volunteering at his church, where he spent many weekends teaching Sunday school among other roles. An avid ultimate frisbee player, he played recreationally all the way into his 50s. He also had a passion for science fiction literature and film, and resultingly never encountered a new technology that surprised him.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial reception on Friday, January 14 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm, in the Salon at the Umstead Hotel, 100 Woodland Pond Dr, Cary, NC 27513. Burial will follow on Saturday, January 15 at 10:00am at Wake Memorial Park in Cary.
