

He graduated as Valedictorian from Grayson High School and attended Davidson College in NC. Jim met the love of his life, Evelyn on a Greyhound Bus when both were headed to school. He paid his way through school working as a “Good Humor Ice Cream” man in Washington D. C. when he was not in school.
Jim served in the Army in European Operations, Germany. Upon discharge from the Army, he came home to marry his love. They were married for 64 years.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; son, Craig; grandson, Michael Shannon; 11 siblings and many sisters in law and brothers in law.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin Shannon (Jeff Armstrong); granddaughter, Stephanie Pascale (Daniel); Shannon Vanderburg (Sean); grandson Will Armstrong (Melissa); great grandson, Carter Vanderburg; sisters, Charlotte Kelley and Louise Knipp; Sisters in law, Terry Goodman and Dean Westmoreland.
