WOW! I’m just reading this very sad news of Jim’s passing at such a young age.  He and I were close friends when he was in DC.  We lived in the same group house and I worked for his boutique  firm, French & (Myra) DeLapp (Moffitt).  Boutique was the holistic part where we had an investigator and then they “hired” me to be the social worker.  Back then in 1976 or 1977 I never got paid by them or the court and I spent down my savings left to me by my grandfather.  Our money was so limited that when our electricity didn’t work I had to keep picking up the office landline to see if anyone was calling.  Back then the electricity was connected to the ring so the phone didn’t work.  I could go on.  My sincere   condolences.  Betsy Biben-Seligman

A memory of Jim is his arranging a tour of the movie studio in Wilmington for my daughter's Girl Scout troop.  He met us there and took us through the lot and even onto the set for Dawson's Creek.  The girls loved that!
Another great memory is when I told him and Hoodie that I had a new dog.  I returned home shortly after that and a "red carpet" was going up the front steps of my house with dog toys scattered at the top of the steps.  
Jim was a thoughtful friend to me and will be missed.

Jimmy, thank you so much for all the guidance and advice throughout the years. You and your mom were so good to our family over the years.  I’ll miss our late night cigarette breaks and philosophical chats. You’re with Hoodie now, Rest In Peace. You will be missed!

Oh Jim, we were just talking this past June. I'm so glad we stayed in touch over the years! The world is a much better place because of you! Please know that you will be missed by many! Please give my mom and dad a hug as I am sure you will see them.

Jimmy has been a dear friend to so many of us in Cary. He was a key player in many things central to Cary life. A life long resident, an Officer and veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and a respected legal mind as an attorney; he was hired by and worked with my father in the N.C. Attorney General's Office in the late 70's/early 80's establishing, prosecuting, and winning RICO cases against high level criminals. He was a man of great honor, integrity, and dignity.  In these Senior years, he personally took care of his mother over 10+years until her recent passing in January. He loved it.

Jimmy was tenacious with a dogged determination to do things right. That was core to his character, always willing to take the time to do the work required to accomplish getting it right for whomever he was getting it right for.  I observed his calm presence in meetings, his kindly stated questions landing with pointed accuracy, that made any attempt at denial of the facts he presented an absurdity. He was always in the room, always supporting, always a friend to the cause.

He is the one friend who took it upon himself to research, unbeknownst to me, my personal injury; and found the Dr. in Neurology who specialized in my condition; went with me to meet this Doctor at Duke hospital where,  ultimately, I received the treatment that saved me from an untimely death. 

Jim listened, he cared, and he acted responsibly to all he engaged with through this journey of his life. He was so looking forward to doing many things.

He will be missed terribly. His intellect and humor, his gentle kindness and support - he was the most thoughtful and accepting man I've ever known.  As I know many of you are, I am heart broken.  

Sending sincerest condolences to Jim's sister, fellow graduate of Cary High School, former resident of Cary,  and friend Deborah French-Frischer in the loss of her Mother, Hoodie, an iconic personality in the history of Cary, 6 months ago, and now her beloved Brother, Jim.

Jimmy was a wonderful guy.  When we first met, he treated me immediately like an old friend.  He knew my parents in highschool and had such sweet things to say about my family.  He was a great storyteller and had a kind and generous heart.  He was good at making sure that the people around him felt valued and had a way with genuine compliments so that you knew he meant what he said and it never felt like empty flattery.  He was incredibly hospitable and I could listen to his stories for hours.   He was thoughtful about what the people around him needed and gave whatever he could.  He valued people as they were.   He was a creative thinker and put his heart into helping where he was needed in his career.  He told me wonderful stories about working with the NAACP which I wish I could have heard more about.  He lovingly cared for his mother for many years and was devoted to her.   He loved his neighbors and his community and he will be missed sincerely.
