

It is with great sadness that the family of John Andrew Urquhart, 84, of Cary, NC, announces his passing on Saturday, February 24, 2018, after an extended illness. John was born in Long Island, NY, and grew up in Baltimore, MD. He served in the U.S. Army and graduated from Western Maryland College. John had a long career in data processing management with General Electric, which included providing support for the Apollo space project. Upon retirement, John and his wife, Maureen, moved to Cary, NC, where he enjoyed life for 30 years surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife, Maureen Ellen Quinn Urquhart. John will be lovingly remembered by his 5 children, John A. Urquhart III of Melbourne, FL, Laura L. White of Burlington, VT, Thomas Edward Urquhart (Peggy) of Wilmington, NC, Julia J. Kuzo (John) of Holly Springs, NC, and Andrea A. Oswald of Cary, NC; 3 stepchildren, Deborah Oswald of Apex, NC, Bill Oswald (Terri) of Richford, VT, and Bob Oswald of Oriental, NC; his brother, R. Peter Urquhart (MaryLou) of Bethany Beach, DE; his former spouse and mother of his children, Anne Offutt Miller of Venice, FL; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Golf was one of John’s greatest pleasures. He was an accomplished golfer throughout his life. He played golf for Western Maryland College, along with his brother Peter. He achieved an amazing 11 holes-in-one. When not on the golf course, John enjoyed watching various sports, gardening, and had a great love for flowers and birds. John’s family will miss his easy smile, positive outlook, and gracious demeanor.
A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at 1:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC. A reception at Brown-Wynne will follow immediately after the service.
The family would like to thank Waltonwood Senior Living Center of Cary, NC and especially John and Julia Kuzo for John’s diligent care during the past three years.
