John Alvin Varnum

John Alvin Varnum, age 86 died on August 3, 2017. John was born on April 26, 1931 in Robeson County, NC to John Washington and Nellie Almond Varnum. John retired as a Master Sargent in the NC National Guard. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Sarah “Lib” Varnum, two sons Alvin Rodney Varnum and David Timothy Varnum (Lorri); daughter Monica Lynne Smith (Eric); five grandchildren Virginia Kay Harris, Michael Varnum, Carlie Varnum, Jonathan and Matthew Smith; four great grandchildren Nolan Harris, Landon Smith, Sydney and Bradley Harris; two sisters Virginia Johnson and Helen Fuller, one brother James “Mac” Varnum.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 7, 2017 at Brown-Wynne in Cary, NC. Burial will be held at 3:00 PM at Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs, NC. The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 AM prior to the service at Brown-Wynne.
