Joseph earned a B.S. degree from Lenoir Rhyne University, an M. S. from Clemson University, and pursued post-graduate studies at Louisiana State University. After returning to North Carolina he was employed as a research scientist with R. J. Reynolds Laboratories in Winston-Salem.
He later served as a research chemist with Burroughs Welcome in TRP, followed by twenty years with the Environment Protection Agency.
From early childhood he enjoyed hunting, fishing and the beach.
Joe is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, daughters Dana and Lara, sons-in-law Steve and Heinz, grandchildren, Mason, Ehron, Killi-An and Colton, and canine buddy Josh Earl.
According to Joe’s wishes there will be no services.
