Kathleen Mary (Brown) Kalinowski died August 9, 2021 after a battle with primary myelofibrosis, a type of bone cancer. She was born in Rhinebeck, NY on June 15, 1948, the daughter of the late Philip Edward and Charlotte (Ellis) Brown.
Kathleen worked as a bank teller for nearly 30 years, serving at several banks, including First American, First Union, Wachovia, Wells Fargo, and Fidelity Bank.
Kathleen and Donald Kalinowski were married July 3, 1979. They and their sons David, Chris, and Greg lived in Poughkeepsie, NY where Don was a Pilot for command airways (later American Eagle). Two daughters were born, Mariette Katharine in 1982 and Larissa Anne in 1985. The family moved to Cary, NC in 1991 when Eagle opened its Hub in RDU.
An avid quilter, Kathleen sewed so many quilts for family, friends, and coworkers that the number is lost. Several quilts were featured in shows and competitions, many winning ribbons in their respective categories.
Kathleen was an early fan of the Carolina Hurricanes, joining the community as a season ticket holder, and having the acquaintance of several players over the years, thanks to her position in banking. She and Donald had the privilege of witnessing the 2006 National Hockey League Championship game, in which the Hurricanes beat Edmonton to bring the Stanley cup home to Raleigh. GO CANES!
Kathy and her beloved Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Nani, enjoyed their walks in the neighborhood.
Kathy is predeceased by her loving husband, Donald Kalinowski and her parents. Also waiting “across the Rainbow Bridge” are cats Fang, Sassy, Dandy and Daisy, along with dogs Lovey, Ricky, Bear and Julie.
Kathy is survived by her loving sons: David, Christopher and Gregory, daughters: Mariette (Maxim Semyonov) and Larissa Kalinowski (Harry Pennington), and grandsons Andrew and Jameson Velna. She also leaves behind a special daughter Teresa Lee.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. The family will receive friends again Friday, August 13, 2021 starting at 2:30 PM, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, immediately followed by a funeral service at 3:30pm.
