Age 84, of Cary, North Carolina
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend: Lillian Marie Lawrence Weakland, who went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Transitions Life Care Hospice House in Raleigh, NC.
Lillian was born on Monday, June 23, 1941, in Spangler, Pennsylvania, to the late Richard and Cecelia Mitchell Lawrence.
Lillian lived a life marked by selflessness, unwavering faith, and boundless love.
Lillian was a remarkable woman whose kindness and generosity touched all who knew her. A person of strong faith and hope, she always saw the good in others and was quick to lend a helping hand. Her open heart and welcoming smile made her a friend to strangers and a steadfast support to family and friends alike. Her faith was a beacon of hope for many, guiding those in need with compassion, understanding, and encouragement.
Anyone fortunate enough to meet Lillian experienced a lasting impression of her warm spirit, a legacy that will be cherished and passed down through generations.
As the matriarch of her family, Lillian placed family above all else. Her children were the branches of her family tree, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren as the leaves, carrying forward her legacy.
She was the joyful hub of family gatherings, especially holidays, where her passion for creating unforgettable moments was evident and ensured every event was perfect, filled with love, care, and family traditions.
Lillian’s heart was also drawn to the beach, with Kure Beach and Fort Fisher holding special places in her memories. No matter what the occasion, being with her family was the ultimate joy and her greatest accomplishment.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Charles Weakland, who completed her circle of love and family, as well as by her brother John Lawrence and sisters June Monaco, Sarah Jane Stone, Betty Weber, Dorothy Bassaro, and Mardell Venesky.
Lillian leaves behind a devoted family to carry forward her memory: daughters Paula Nickola and her husband Ray of Wendell, NC, and Teresa “Terri” Adams of Raleigh, NC, her son Gregg Weakland of Cary, NC; brothers Robert Lawrence and his wife Madeleine of Himrod, NY, Wayne Lawrence of Patton, PA; and sister Deanna Luther of Mentor, OH.
She was a proud grandmother to Jessica Duzan and her husband Tim, Johnathan Adams and his wife Jessica, Jake Nickola, and Jillian Adams. Her great-grandchildren—Lillian Marie Bingham, Isabella “Izzy” Duzan, Elise “Ellie” Adams—and the anticipated arrival of Baby Girl Adams this month.
Family and friends will gather to honor Lillian’s life on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC.
A Catholic Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church 3008 Old Raleigh Rd, Apex, NC, with entombment to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Lillian’s love and kindness will remain forever in our hearts. Her life was a gift, and her legacy of faith, hope, and selflessness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
